ChevronPhillips on Wednesday broke ground on its U.S. Gulf Coast Petrochemical Project at its Cedar Bayou facility in Baytown, Texas. ChevronPhillips is building a 1.5 million-metric-tons-per-year ethane cracker at Cedar Bayou and two 500,000-metric-tons-per-year polyethyelene facilities in Old Ocean, Texas. Local dignitaries attended a Wednesday ceremony to celebrate the start of the project, which is expected to be complete in 2017. ChevronPhillips will host another groundbreaking ceremony for the polyethyelene units June 17.
