Oil and gas production in the Eagle Ford shale generated more than $87 billion for the state of Texas last year, according to a new study by the University of Texas at San Antonio. Shale activity supported almost 155,000 full-time equivalent jobs and brought more than $4.4 billion to local and state governments in 2013.
The researchers predict the Eagle Ford will support more than 196,000 jobs and generate more than $137 billion for Texas by 2023.
UTSA’s study focused on 21 Texas counties that are directly or indirectly involved in oil and gas production. Eagle Ford production has grown from 581 barrels per day in 2008 to 1.5 million barrels per day as of August 2014.
