ExxonMobil and Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (SABIC) are considering building a joint venture petrochemical complex in either Texas or Louisiana, the companies announced today. The facility would be located near natural gas resources and would include a world-scale steam cracker and derivative units.
The companies did not identify the potential costs or time frame of the project. Via the Baton Rouge Advocate, ExxonMobil has met with officials from Ascension and St. James parishes in Louisiana and Victoria and San Patricio counties in Texas about securing a possible site for the plant.
ExxonMobil and SABIC have worked together for 35 years on chemical industry projects in Saudi Arabia.
