Sasol CEO David Constable said in a recent interview his firm is considering a scaled-down version of the $14 billion GTL plant recently proposed for Lake Charles, Louisiana. Via Bloomberg, Constable said Sasol is evaluating building the plant at a capacity of 55,000 barrels per day instead of 100,000 barrels per day. Sasol deferred a final investment decision on the plant in January, citing low oil prices.
Meanwhile, Sasol Chief Financial Officer Bongani Nqwababa said the firm had secured 80% of the funding needed for its $8.9 billion ethane cracker in Lake Charles. The plant is set to be complete in 2018.
