San Antonio-based Howard Midstream Energy Partners today announced plans to build a $500 million network of refined products pipelines and terminals stretching from Corpus Christi, Texas, to Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
The Dos Aguilas project includes four new terminals with a combined capacity of 1.15 million barrels and a 287-mile, 72,000-barrel-per-day pipeline system. The terminals will be located in Robstown and Laredo, Texas, Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, and Santa Catarina, Nuevo Leon. The system is expected to be in service in the first quarter of 2018.
Howard Energy Partners CEO Mike Howard said in a statement the project would provide Texas refiners with access to new markets in Mexico. It is the latest in a string of new cross-border energy projects announced since Mexico opened its energy sector to private investment in 2013.
Last year Howard announced plans to build a 200-mile natural gas pipeline from the company’s Webb County, Texas, hub to Escobedo and Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. The pipeline is expected to begin operating in June 2017.
