An operator was burned in an explosion and fire Saturday at the Petrobras-owned Pasadena Refining System near Houston. Via Reuters, the worker was hospitalized but has since been released. The explosion damaged a 35,000-barrel-per-day light cycle oil hydrotreater, but all other units are in operation. The fire was contained on Saturday and the refinery is in safe condition, according to Petrobras.
The refinery is at the center of a scandal involving Petrobras, which is accused by the Brazilian government of paying kickbacks from the $1.2 billion it paid for the site to Brazilian officials.
