TransCanada has reopened its Keystone oil pipeline at a reduced pressure more than a week after a spill was discovered underground in South Dakota. Via CNNMoney, the Canadian firm initially reported that 187 gallons of oil had spilled, but that estimate was later increased to 16,800 gallons. TransCanada said the source of the spill was a small leak in Hutchinson County, South Dakota. The spill is under control, and the company said there was no threat to the public.
The closure of the pipeline forced Phillips 66 to shut down a sour crude unit and a coker at its Wood River, Illinois, refinery last week. Phillips 66 also advanced planned maintenance of the units during the shutdown.
