Methanex Corp. announced today it has produced first methanol at its new 1-million-tons-per-year methanol plant in Geismar, La. Methanex recently relocated the plant from its production site in Punta Arenas, Chile.
Methanex CEO John Floren said the plant will ramp up to full production rates in the coming weeks. Floren also said Methanex is on target to start up its second Geismar methanol plant — currently under construction — in the first quarter of 2016.
