NOVA Chemicals announced yesterday it will expand ethylene manufacturing capacity at its Corunna, Ontario, cracker facility by 20%. NOVA will also move forward with two projects at its Mooretown, Ontario site — debottlenecking at a low-density polyethylene (PE) line and retrofitting a high-density PE line. The company is in the process of converting the Corunna cracker to utilize up to 100% natural gas liquids. It has a stockpile of Marcellus Shale ethane ready to be processed at Corunna.
NOVA is also evaluating the construction of a second Advanced SCLAIRTECH™ technology (AST) facility, with the U.S. Gulf Coast being named as a possible location. The company built its first AST facility at its St. Clair River site in Corunna in 1995.
