A pipeline spill near Santa Barbara, Calif., resulted in an oil slick stretching four miles along the Pacific coastline. Via the Associated Press, early estimates pegged the spill at approximately 21,000 gallons, but that could change pending a Coast Guard flyover planned for today. The broken pipeline, which is owned by Plains All American Pipeline, spilled oil into a culvert, where it flowed into a storm drain that empties into the ocean. The pipeline has been shut down and the culvert was blocked. A Coast Guard spokeswoman said about 850 gallons of oil have been recovered thus far.
