Tesoro on Friday announced it had begun restarting its Martinez, Calif., refinery, which had been shut down due to the refinery workers’ strike. Tesoro Chairman and CEO Greg Goff said the company reached an agreement with the local United Steelworkers (USW) union in Martinez and that the refinery would be back to normal operations over the next two weeks.
Tesoro said it has also reached agreements with USW representatives at its Carson, Calif., and Anacortes, Wash., refineries. Local unions at its refineries in Utah and North Dakota are expected to vote on their contracts within days.
The Martinez refinery was in the final stages of a major turnaround when the strike began in early February. Tesoro opted to idle the entire facility at that time.
