The largest crude distillation unit at BP’s Whiting, Indiana, refinery will be down for at least one month after being damaged in a malfunction on Saturday. Via Reuters, the time frame for the 240,000-barrel-per-day unit, called Pipestill 12, is preliminary and could change. The unit processes heavy sour crude oil. BP’s North American refining strategy has focused more on processing heavy Canadian crude in recent years.
