The price of natural gas reached $5 per million Btus for the first time in four years on Friday amid forecasts of freezing weather across the U.S. Natural gas prices have hovered between $3 and $4 per million Btus over the past several months after reaching a low of just under $2 per million Btus in April 2012. The Wall Street Journal noted that the 15% rise in prices this week was the largest weekly gain since October 2010. The cold weather is expected to continue in the eastern U.S. over the next two weeks, which may continue to drive higher demand for natural gas as an indoor heating fuel.
