Refineries in Louisiana have thus far avoided impacts from the catastrophic floods affecting the southern part of the state, Reuters reports.
The floods have not affected Motiva Enterprises’ Convent and Norco refineries, though the Convent refinery is running at reduced output due to a fire last Thursday. It was reported on Friday that floodwaters had surrounded the unit that caught fire due in part to emergency responders’ efforts to limit environmental damage while fighting the blaze.
Representatives of ExxonMobil, Citgo and Alon USA said there were no impacts to their refineries in Baton Rouge, Lake Charles and Krotz Springs, respectively.
Thousands of people throughout south Louisiana have been flooded out of their homes and are taking refuge at shelters across the region. More than 280 Louisiana roads are closed as of Monday afternoon, including portions of Interstates 10 and 12.
