The chemical industry is the backbone of modern life, and Texas has played a pivotal role in its evolution.
The Texas chemical industry, with a rich history dating back to the discovery of oil at Spindletop, has been essential to the state’s economy since the 1920s. After World War II, the chemical industry experienced rapid expansion, becoming a key economic engine for Texas, providing a tax base and creating hundreds of thousands of high-paying jobs. Today, our industry manufactures over 70,000 products used in daily life and continues to innovate solutions for a better and brighter future.
Since 1953, the Texas Chemical Council (TCC) has been the trusted voice of the chemical industry in Austin at the Texas State Capitol and before state government agencies. TCC has worked effectively with 11 governors and 36 Texas Legislatures. TCC’s distinctive logo has long been a very recognizable symbol in Austin and depicts one of the most important industries in the Lone Star State — a major economic engine for our state’s economy with over $150 billion in investment across the state and representing nearly half a million quality Texas jobs.
After 70 years, TCC is proud to unveil a new name and logo that reflects the transformation occurring in our industry. TCC is now Texas Chemistry Council with a logo that reflects the movement toward a more sustainable future and recognition that chemistry is the science behind sustainability.
As the chemical industry transforms, so do the contractors, suppliers and service providers that make up Association of Chemical Industry of Texas (ACIT). ACIT was organized in 1986 to bring manufacturers together with the supplier community and represent the entire supply chain for the chemical industry in Texas. ACIT has also undergone a transformation and is now known as the Texas Chemistry Alliance, featuring a new logo that reflects its alliance with TCC.
Our new names and logos symbolize our industry’s evolution of continuous innovation to meet the ever-changing needs of our customers and modern world. This is not just a change in name and logo, but a commitment to leading the business of chemistry into a future marked by sustainability and responsible business practices.
TCC and ACIT redefine their brand identities to mirror changes in industry.

The essence of chemistry
The Texas chemical industry transforms natural gas and other mineral resources into the building blocks for essential products that sustain and improve our quality of life.
Our industry provides the raw materials that help keep us safe, healthy, clean, comfortable, mobile and connected. The products of chemistry make our lives better in immeasurable ways. The chemical industry supplies innovative materials that are responsible for:
- Clean drinking water and fresher food
- Medical supplies and medicines
- Modern transportation
- Computers, smartphones and the satellites that connect them
- Personal care and cosmetic products
- Performance fabrics
- Wind turbines, solar panels and batteries for renewable energy
More than 95% of all manufactured goods are touched by chemistry. In fact, nearly all goods and services we enjoy as part of our day-to-day lives would not exist without chemicals. The chemical industry is essential to the functioning of our society and economy, and its innovations are the key to a brighter future.
The chemistry industry is committed not only to improving the world through its products but also to ensuring that the methods employed in its processes contribute to a better future. We are committed to safety, sustainability and giving back to our communities. We do well by doing good.
Original industry expansion
The business of chemistry grew significantly at the onset of World War II. Large-scale, integrated factories were built to convert raw materials, such as refined crude oil, natural gas and even sea water and salt, into critical products necessary for the war effort, including magnesium for airplanes, synthetic rubber for tires and nylon for parachutes.
Rapid expansion of the chemical industry followed World War II as production turned to the post-war consumer age fueled by innovations in chemistry and science, creating thousands of new consumer products benefiting modern society. By the 1960s, the chemical industry was established as a key economic engine for the Texas economy and remains so today.
The shale economy
The discovery of oil at Spindletop, near Beaumont, launched the petroleum and petrochemical age in Texas. The U.S. shale economy has provided an abundant supply of natural gas from shale deposits in Texas and across the country that have given the U.S. chemical industry a competitive edge on the global stage, attracting new investments and creating high-quality jobs for Americans.
The shale economy led to a manufacturing renaissance, attracting billions in investment, increasing exports and creating tens of thousands of new American jobs. The availability of shale gas, like flour to a baker, is crucial for chemical manufacturing, generating electricity and serving as the primary feedstock for manufacturing countless everyday products. Texas, with over $150 billion in manufacturing investment, stands as the largest chemical manufacturing state in the U.S., contributing significantly to the country’s manufacturing sector.
Sustainability
The chemical industry is not just a producer of goods; it is a driving force behind sustainability. With chemistry as the science behind sustainability, TCC is poised to play a pivotal role in demonstrating how the industry is adapting to change and leading the way with sustainable solutions.
TCC and the Texas Chemistry Alliance represent the industry’s commitment to sustainability, safety and community engagement. Our new logos reflect a move toward a sustainable future and symbolize the industry’s dedication to becoming a solutions-oriented sector in order to achieve greater sustainability for our people and our planet.
The chemistry industry is committed not only to improving the world through its products but also to ensuring that the methods employed in its processes contribute to a better future.
The evolution of the chemical industry is intricately linked to the global push toward sustainability. Chemistry plays an essential role in developing solutions to address today’s challenges. The TCC will play a pivotal role in demonstrating how the business of chemistry is adapting to change and leading the way with sustainable solutions. TCC represents our industry’s commitment to science, advancing technologies and manufacturing practices that contribute to a more sustainable future.
As our modern world strives for greater sustainability, TCC will communicate to stakeholders, policymakers and the public that the chemical industry in Texas is driving positive change and is a leader in the pursuit of a more sustainable and innovative future.
