Occidental Chemical Corp. (OxyChem) has received the final greenhouse gas "prevention of significant deterioration" construction permits from the EPA for a 1.2-billion lb/year ethylene cracker to be built in Ingleside, Texas.
In 2010, EPA finalized regulations specifying that beginning in Jan. 2011, projects that increase "greenhouse gas" emissions would require an air permit. The move was met with backlash from the industry. Texas is working to replace a federal implementation plan with its own state program, which will remove the EPA’s involvement. Read more at OGJ.com.
