Axiall Corp. and Korean firm Lotte Chemical on Tuesday broke ground on a new $3 billion chemical plant in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The facility, located near Axiall’s existing plants, will include a $1.9 billion ethane cracker and a $1.1 billion monoethylene glycol plant. Both plants are expected to start up in 2019.
The plants are expected to create 215 new direct jobs and 1,892 indirect jobs in southwest Louisiana.
Last week it was announced Westlake Chemical would acquire Axiall for $2.3 billion. Lotte Chemical reportedly submitted a bid for Axiall.
