Castleton Commodities International (CCI) will build a $1.2 billion methanol plant along the Mississippi River in Plaquemines Parish, La., the company announced today. Via the Baton Rouge, La., Advocate, the 5,000-metric-ton-per-day plant will be built on the former AMAX Nickel site on the north side of the parish. CCI expects to begin construction in 2016. The firm said the project would create 50 new direct jobs and approximately 1,000 construction jobs.
CCI is a global commodities merchant headquartered in Stamford, Conn. CCI’s holdings include coal-blending terminals in West Virginia and Kentucky, cogeneration plants in Texas and New York and upstream and midstream assets in Utah, Colorado and Alabama, among others.
It is the latest in a string of methanol plant investments announced in Louisiana in recent years. South Louisiana Methanol in January obtained an air quality permit needed to build its planned $1.3 billion methanol plant in St. James.
