Dow on Monday announced the start-up of a new 800-kilotons-per-year joint venture chlor-alkali facility at its Freeport, Texas, plant. The facility, which Dow owns jointly with Mitsui & Co., replaces older capacity at the site. Dow said it would use its share of the chlorine as feedstock for its own facilities and market caustic soda externally on behalf of the joint venture.
“This joint venture bolsters the integration strength of the chlorine value chain at the Freeport site in a capital efficient model that allows Dow to invest in more downstream technology and customer-driven businesses with higher and more consistent earnings,” said Jim Fitterling, Dow executive vice president.
