Flint Hills Resources is planning $750 million in upgrades to its Pine Bend refinery in Rosemount, Minnesota, aimed at producing ultralow-sulfur fuels and reducing emissions, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Flint Hills will replace two 1960s-era coking units, install a new fractionator and implement upgraded hydrogen unit technology to produce more clean diesel. The project will employ 2,500 workers at its peak, and startup is expected next year.
Flint Hills last week appointed Geoff Glasrud vice president and manufacturing manager at the Pine Bend refinery. He succeeds Scott Lindemann, who recently became a vice president at Flint Hills’ corporate division.
