INEOS Olefins & Polymers and Sasol on Friday broke ground on their $500 million joint venture high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plant in La Porte, Texas. Located at the INEOS Battleground Manufacturing Complex, the facility will produce 470 kilotons per year of HDPE using technology licensed from INEOS. INEOS will operate the plant. The firms expect to start up the facility in 2016.
The HDPE plant will be near Sasol’s planned $8.1 billion ethane cracker and derivatives complex in Lake Charles, La. The Lake Charles ethane cracker is expected to come online in 2018.
