South Louisiana Methanol has received the air quality permit needed from Louisiana regulators to break ground on the $1.3 billion methanol plant it plans to build in St. James Parish. Company CEO Barry Williamson said in a press release construction is set to begin during the second half of this year and the plant will be commissioned in January 2017. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and company officials announced last February that the plant would be built at the Port of South Louisiana in St. James. South Louisiana Methanol said the plant would be the nation’s largest methanol facility when completed.
South Louisiana Methanol is a partnership between design-build firm ZEEP of Austin, Texas, and diversified holding company Todd Corporation of New Zealand.
