LyondellBasell has received a key permit for its planned ethylene expansion in Corpus Christi, Texas, ensuring a multi-plant ethylene project that began last year will be done on schedule. The company in 2013 kicked off a $1.3 billion, three-facility expansion project that will ultimately increase LyondellBasell’s annual ethylene capacity by 1.85 billion pounds. LyondellBasell CEO Jim Gallogly said the greenhouse gas permit issued by Texas authorities for the Corpus Christi plant means the project will be complete by the end of next year.
The company expects to finish plant upgrades at its La Porte facility this summer and will start up its Channelview plant in early 2015. Construction at Corpus Christi is set to begin during the second half of this year.
