Momentive Specialty Chemicals will build two new formaldehyde units in Geismar and Luling, La., the company announced on Thursday. The Luling facility will feed into Monsanto’s adjacent manufacturing facility via a direct pipeline. It is expected to start operating in the first quarter of 2016. The Geismar unit, which is expected to come online in the fourth quarter of 2015, will serve the adjacent Huntsman and BASF plants. Each unit will produce more than 400,000 metric tons of formaldehyde per year. Momentive said the projects would support 68 jobs.
