A new $5.2 billion high- and low-density polyethylene plant in the Mexican Gulf Coast state of Veracruz has begun operations. Via EFE, the one-million-metric-ton-per-year plant will replace 70% of Mexico’s imports of HDPE and LDPE. Odebrecht led an engineering, procurement and construction consortium on the project. Mexican firms Braskem Idesa and Grupo Idesa are now operating the plant.
