The first LNG cargo from Cheniere Energy’s Sabine Pass export terminal in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, will depart for Brazil today, the company announced. Cheniere said the cargo was loading on the LNG carrier Asia Vision, which is chartered by Cheniere Marketing. Brazil state-owned oil company Petrobras is expected to receive the shipment.
“This historic event opens a new chapter for the country in energy trade and is a significant milestone for Cheniere as we prepare Train 1 for commercial operations,” Cheniere Chairman and Interim CEO Neal Shear said in a statement.
Cheniere is planning to develop up to six liquefaction trains at Sabine Pass, each with a production capacity of 4.5 million tonnes per year. Five are at various stages of construction and development, and a decision on the sixth is expected pending commercial agreements and financing.
