The proposed Corpus Christi LNG project cleared a key regulatory hurdle on Wednesday as the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) declared the project would have minimal environmental impact. FERC’s environmental impact statement clears the way for the government to approve construction of the project. Corpus Christi LNG would enable project owner Cheniere Energy to export 2.1 billion cubic feet per day of LNG. Cheniere must also obtain approval from the Department of Energy to export natural gas to nations with which the U.S. does not have free trade agreements.
FERC has approved construction of four LNG projects to date, including Cheniere’s Sabine Pass LNG terminal in Cameron Parish, La.
