Nuclear power in the U.S. may be on the road to revival as the government is set to provide funding for the first new reactors in more than three decades. The Department of Energy is expected to announce today it will grant a $6.5 billion loan to build two nuclear reactors in Georgia, according to a Reuters report. Southern Co. has been negotiating with the Obama Administration for the past four years to secure a loan to build reactors at its Vogtle nuclear plant, which it co-owns with two other companies. A conditional agreement was struck in 2010 for $8.3 billion, but a $1.8 billion loan to co-owner Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia remains outstanding.
