Shell said today it would move forward with the construction and installation of the Appomattox deepwater platform in the Gulf of Mexico. The platform will initially produce from the Appomattox and Vicksburg fields approximately 80 miles from the Louisiana coast, with average peak production of 175,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. Appomattox is Shell’s eighth and largest floating platform in the Gulf of Mexico. It is expected to start up by the end of the decade.
