Shell canceled a $593,000-per-day contract with Transocean for a rig that was being used in the former’s now defunct Arctic exploration program. Shell pulled the plug on its Chukchi Sea operations in September after an exploratory well yielded disappointing results. Shell’s decision is not a surprise, but it is the second cancellation for Transocean this month.
