Chevron Corp. today announced it had begun commercial operation of premium base oils from a new unit at its Pascagoula, Miss., refinery. The 25,000-barrels-per-day facility supplements current base oil production from Chevron’s Richmond, Calif., refinery and a joint venture facility in Yeosu, Korea.
The base oils produced at Chevron’s Pascagoula refinery will be sold to customers on the East Coast and in Europe and Latin America. Chevron is capitalizing on increasingly strict regulations and performance requirements for lubricants worldwide.
“Lubricants are a high growth business supporting economic development worldwide,” Mike Wirth, executive vice president of Chevron Downstream & Chemicals, said in a news release. “The addition of the Pascagoula plant to Chevron’s base oil network enhances Chevron’s reputation as a reliable and flexible base oil supplier globally.”
The facility is using Chevron’s proprietary ISODEWAXING technology.
