Shell today announced it started up production at its Cardamom subsea development located 225 miles southwest of New Orleans. It is the second major deepwater facility Shell has brought online in the Gulf of Mexico this year — the company began production at its Mars B development in February. The Cardamom development is expected to yield 50,000 barrels per day of oil when at full production. The facility is piped through Shell’s Auger platform, which will reach 130,000 barrels per day of production when Cardamom is at full capacity.
“Cardamom is a high-value addition to Shell’s production at the Auger platform and is another example of our excellence in deepwater project delivery,” said Marvin Odum, Shell Upstream Americas director. “The work to extend the production life of our first deepwater tension leg platform is impressive and involved advanced exploration and development technology. Our future opportunities in deep water mean that this will remain an important, high-return growth area for Shell.”
Shell is the sole owner of the Cardamom development.
